Features of the Bed - Durable Construction, Easy to Assemble The beds in the Dutch Collection are some of the finest built anywhere – completely of solid oak or cherry wood, other than the hardware, of course. All of the wood is carefully selected by hand. Honesty, integrity, and hard work are the other ingredients. Even a novice can easily assemble this bed in very little time. The headboard and footboard both have metal clips that interlock with the side rails. This joint is made to fit very snuggly, so we recommend that you gently tap the side rails into place with a rubber mallet and a rag (place the rag over the wood and tap with the mallet). The dovetailed slats easily slide into slots in each side board, as shown in the picture above. The result is a bed that is very sturdy and strong, yet is easy to put together. The Crafting of a Windsor Bed All beds in the Dutch Collection are built of solid red oak or cherry wood. The wood is planed, and then sanded in a four-part sanding process consisting of 80 grit, 120 grit, and 180 grit sanding followed by a spot check hand sanding. The wood is glued and clamped together at the joints. The shop owner remarks, “When properly done, gluing and clamping is the best fastener there is.” When completed, the beds are finished with a two-part catalyzed finish consisting of a varnish and a Jemini stain. Amish 74" Four Door Hutch East Earl Collection This beautiful hutch is handcrafted using solid wood. It has four cabinet doors on the top, each with a handsome Antique English Door Pull for a classic accent and ease of pulling. Each door also has six glass panes for easy viewing of the contents. This hutch has hidden hinges and full extension drawer slides. In addition, glass shelves with wood trim, touch lighting and mirror backs are available. The base of the hutch has three drawers, with one large drawer in the middle of two smaller drawers. The drawers are French Dovetailed. In this unique dovetail system, the dovetail slides inside the drawer sides to create a very strong bond that will hold through generations of use. Because of the way the dovetail slides into the drawer joints, they cannot be seen on the side of the drawer, but from the top or bottom when the drawer is pulled out. There are four doors at the bottom, all adorned with Antique English hardware. The bottom doors have a decorative engraved inset. The standard back of the top of the hutch is beautiful tongue and groove solid wood. The back of the bottom of the hutch is a solid plywood--the best choice to reduce warping or buckling. The hutch top is delivered with blocks (that are stained with the hutch) on the bottom of each side to protect it during shipping. Take slight pressure to them with a screwdriver to pop them off before setting the hutch top on the buffet.
